Being Humbly Responsible

I think of veganism humbly and holistically. It’s about taking personal responsibility in a world so full of needless suffering. It’s challenging one’s self to open one’s eyes and question society’s assumptions and habits. It’s about critical thinking and compassion and how we would like to see the world evolve.

A Sample List of Vegetarian Foods for Better Health

There are many pure vegan foods and products on offer across the globe these days. Shopping has become a way of showing one’s compassion and awareness for many vegetarians and vegans. And no, you don’t have to go without if you do not consume any animal by-products.

Here’s just a sample list of some of the great many foods on offer for you:

Fresh fruits, vegetables, salads, leafy green vegetables, herbs, grasses and wild greens, nuts, seeds, grains, beans, pulses and legumes, sprouted seeds, edible flowers, sea vegetables, oils, salts, spices, sweeteners, dried fruits, flavorings, fermented foods and dehydrated foods. Mock-meats like veggie burgers, hot dogs and sausages, veggie mince, chicken and bacon subsititues, fishless fish-fingers, almond, soy, rice, oat and potato milks (some contain sweeteners or come in flavored options and most vegan milks are fortified with calcium and vitamins D & B12 as well). Non-dairy ice creams, sorbets and desserts, egg replacers, tofu, seitan, soy margarine, tempeh, texturized vegetable protein, and even soy cheeses including sour, creamed and whipped creams plus much more.

So as you can see there is an abundance of food to choose from when opting for a vegan or vegetarian diet and lifestyle. And as stated by many vegetarians across the Globe, what we do is just as important as what we don’t do. Therefore living with compassion and exploring the vegetarian way of life could and most probably will change your life for the better.

And considering that in the UK alone if everyone ate NO meat for just one day a week, this would save 13 Mtons CO2 of greehouse gas emissions. Which would result in greater carbon savings than taking 5 million cars off the road in the UK (10.4 mt CO2).

That’s why vegetarianism is …

Save 60 Million Lives Easily!

From ‘John Robbins’ book ‘Diet for a New America’

Sixty million people will starve to death this year. But if each person reduced their animal intake by 10%, it could save 60 million lives, because the grain usually fed to the animals could be fed to the starving people instead!
